Rubella has not been completely eradicated globally, but it has been eliminated in many regions of the world
As of 2022, rubella has been eliminated in the following regions:
Americas, Europe, Western Pacific, and Southeast Asia.
However, rubella still circulates in other parts of the world, including Africa, the Middle East, and South Asia.
To prevent rubella, it is important to get vaccinated with the measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccine. This vaccine is highly effective in preventing rubella and its complications, including congenital rubella syndrome, which can cause serious birth defects in pregnant women.
Efforts are ongoing to achieve global eradication of rubella. However, this will require continued vaccination efforts and surveillance in all parts of the world.

While rubella, also known as German measles, is no longer endemic in the United States, it still exists in other parts of the world and can be brought into the U.S. by travelers
